Dear Colleague,

As organizers of the 3rd Congress of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM), it is our pleasure to invite you to this meeting, to be held from 28-30 January, 2009, in Barcelona (Spain).

Our main goal is to bring together researchers that are currently working in equine internal medicine in Europe and other parts of the world, in order to share the findings of their most recent studies. Therefore, all diplomates and residents of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine (ECEIM) and also of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) are welcome to the meeting, as well as all clinicians and other researchers in supplementary areas of equine medicine, such as equine surgery, emergency and critical care, neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, theriogenology, etc, who would like to share th e findings of their studies at this international equine medicine congress. All abstracts presented at the meeting will be published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and authors are invited to submit their manuscripts to this prestigious journal in accordance with the well-known peer-reviewed system.

Barcelona is currently the most referenced city for cultural and scientific events in Southern Europe. It is a well-known international city, full of historic and cultural places of interest that are well worth visiting. For this reason, the organizers would like to combine this top-level scientific meeting with the opportunity to visit the most beautiful buildings by architects such as Gaudi (the Sagrada Familia, etc), together with the chance to enjoy typical Spanish foods (such as paella, tapas, etc) and drinks (Spanish wine & cava).

Top-level equine medical science will be combined with a range of social events in order to facilitate sociability between researchers from different groups. With this in mind, the program will be partially paused during the meeting (on Thursday) to allow all attendants to spend one full-day visiting Barcelona, and to finish with a nice, quiet dinner at the marina where you will be able to taste our exquisite Mediterranean seafood.
